Aluminum is an extremely versatile metal, known for its outstanding resistance to corrosion, low density, and energy efficiency. It also offers good electrical and thermal conductivity and can be used as a superconductor. Its use is found a number of different industries including education and government, woodworking and cabinet shops, medical devices, commercial and retail construction, and rescue vehicle and boat lift manufacturing.
Making Aluminum Tubing
An aluminum tube starts as a slug or blank and is then fed into a die that extrudes it and roughly creates a completed tube form. Then the tube is cut at both the bottom and top ends to the specified length. The extrusion process has hardened the aluminum, so it is then passed through a process which makes the metal malleable at about 860 degrees Fahrenheit.
For tubing to be used in the pharmaceutical industry, the internal part of the tube is sprayed with a material which acts as a lining to protect metal-sensitive products between the exposed aluminum and the pharmaceutical, or other product, to be packaged. Tubes that do not require an internal coating then get a base coat on which is applied the specified colors and any other decoration or printing as required by the customer.
Some products require that tubes have a fold sealant to prevent seepage of product from the folded end of the tube. In this case, the end is capped, and the types and styles of the caps are made to customer specifications. Tubes can be manufactures in different sizes, widths, and styles of flanges.
Uses of Tubing Connectors
Aluminum tubes can be used in architectural applications such as room partitions, wall dividers, wall supports, and handrails. Do-it-yourself applications such as shelving, pot racks, table stands, and many other home projects are better suited by extruded aluminum.
Aluminum tubes are ideal for use with nylon tubing connectors. These connectors are manufactured of high quality and durable nylon material. They find their way into manufacturing, architectural, display and machining applications. Some connectors do not require tools to be used in assembling frames and so are best suited for tradeshow booths, signs, and displays.
