Precision grinding with CNC machines makes it easier on your employees. Thanks to modern technology, you can program machines to do work that once took more than one manual operation. However, even high-tech machines need basic safety precautions and here are some important shop rules to keep in mind.
1. Keep the Work Area Clean
Before starting up your machine, make sure you have no debris around the equipment. If there is trash or any items on the floor, remove them.
2. Keep All Machinery and Tools in Place
If you need to use a crane for some of your projects, always replace the crane in its original position. All measuring and precision grinding tools should stay in your tool box or tool bag when not in use. When you replace tools right after using, you always have them, and they don’t get in the way.
3. Check Safety Guards
Checking all safety guards is an important part of each setup. In fact, it’s as important as programming your machine.
4. Wear Your Safety Gear
Safety goggles can’t protect your eyes if they’re sitting on top of your head. If you have to remove your goggles before measuring, consider prescription safety glasses with side shields.
5. Check All Cutting Tools
Before you start, check cutting tools for sharpness and signs of wear and tear. This can save you many problems and lower the amount of scrap each day.
6. Double Check Your Programs
When you reprogram a machine, check the program a second time before running your precision grinding equipment. It’s easy to make entry errors, and you can catch most of them with this strategy.
7. Take Time for Cleaning
Check your work area before the shift starts. At quitting time, take a few minutes to make sure everything is clean and put away.
