High Pressure pneumatic needle valves are important parts that control gas or fluid flow rates in many systems. Some also act as shut-off valves. They also come in many sizes, including very small models that are less than one inch long. When selecting a needle valve, it is important to understand type and material composition requirements.

Types of Pneumatic Needle Valves

Manually operated needle valves are threaded and include a handle for manual operation. The handle, or hand wheel, helps control the rate of flow. Turning the handle in one direction results in the valve opening to various amounts and turning it the other results in a decreased flow rate up to closure.

Motorized needle valves do not use a handle to alter fluid or gas flow. Instead, they use a pneumatic or electric actuator to manipulate the internal valve plunger.

Angle needle valves change the direction of inlet output to a 90-degree angle. This angle orientation allows for better integration of systems.

Selecting Pneumatic Valves for System Integration

It’s important to consider four characteristics when choosing a needle valve, including material, pressure, size, and temperature.

Needle valve housings often come in brass and stainless steel because of their resistance to many chemical compounds. Brass is most used for drinking water, gas, and peak temperature applications where the compound is non-corrosive. Stainless steel can also withstand high temperatures, but it also resists corrosive compounds. You must also select a valve that is rated for the pressure and size requirements for your system.
