Applying for and obtaining a Commercial Drivers License has it’s own unique rules and requirements. The process is quite different than that of getting a regular drivers license. Here are the basic steps you must take to Get your CDL in Chicago.
In order to drive a commercial vehicle you should first enroll in a truck driving school such as Star Truck Driving School. When you complete the training, you will be able to begin the application process through the Department of Motor Vehicles.
Before you visit the drivers license center for testing, you will need to obtain a copy of the CDL study guide. This is a booklet that contains all of the information needed in order to pass the tests you will be taking. Study this guide completely and make sure you understand all of the contents. When you visit the state DMV, you will need to have documentation from the school about the training you have completed. Make sure you have the appropriate proof of identity with you as well. Complete the application in it’s entirety.
You will be required to take a written examination, a road test and be able to complete a pre-trip inspection while being monitored by an examiner. If you do not pass one or all of these tests, you will not be able to qualify for your CDL.
