A 150 Watt CFL is an energy saving light. Also known as a compact fluorescent light, these bulbs will fit in many light fixtures and lamps where incandescent bulbs have ben used. The CFL’s give the same amount of light as an incandescent bulb but use less energy. They also last much longer than the traditional light bulbs.
The distribution of the CFL power is different than other light bulbs and the soft white CFL’s will generally radiate just as much light if not more than the other types of bulbs on the market. There are a two different types of 150 watt CFL lamps that are popularly used.
Integrated
The integrated lamps have a tube and ballast in one single unit. This type of lamp will enable someone to replace the incandescent lamps with the CFL’s. They work in most of the fixtures designed for the incandescent lamps. This costs less than the conversion to fluorescent lighting.
Non-Integrated
These type of lamps have a ballast that is installed with the liminaire. The bulb is changed when it burns out. The ballasts are larger because they are incorporated into the light fixture. Their lifespan is longer than the integrated ones. These are available in two different types of tubes. The quad-pin tube is designed for the electric ballast and the bi-pin tube is for what is known as the conventional ballast.
The 150 Watt CFL emits light from phosphors which are insice the bulb. The modern phosphor designs will balance the light in color, cost and energy efficiency. When extra phosphor is added to the mix, it improves color and decreases efficiency. It also increases the amount of energy used. The CFL’s that are good quality will use three to four phosphors which will emit a white light.
A 150 Watt CFL will usually have a service life of approximately six thousand to 15 thousand hours. Most of the incandescent bulbs only last anywhere from 750 to 1,000 hours. Many factors will contribute to lengthening or shortening the lifespan of any bulb. These factors include things such as exposure to spikes in voltage, frequency of turning them off and on and possible manufacturing defects.
