For centuries women have sought to enhance and improve the appearance of their fingernails. Having manicured, painted nails is no longer an indicator of status, nor do modern women still adorn their nails with pistachio hulls. Well-manicured nails are sought by both women and men alike, especially those in the sales field.

* Manicure -; A manicure is one of the most requested Nail Care Services. A typical manicure will begin with the nail technician having the client soak their hands in a bowl containing a mixture of water and an anti-bacterial liquid, usually scented. The hands will then be dried and any existing nail polished removed. The fingernails are shaped per the client’s preference and cuticle softener applied and the softened cuticles pushed back with a manicure stick. The cuticles are then trimmed and hangnails removed. Sometimes an exfoliating scrub is applied before having the client wash their hands. Once the hands are washed, a massage lotion is applied, and the hands are gently massaged. The nails are given a final buff and nail polished applied if desired. Most men choose to skip this last step.

* Pedicures -; A pedicure is essentially the same as a manicure, only on the toes and feet. For men, the procedure is more about its therapeutic and medical aspects, than cosmetic. Pedicures have been shown to prevent or reduce the occurrence of nail disorders and diseases. The soles of the feet are gently scrubbed using a pumice stone to remove dead skin. The technician will also exfoliate, moisturize, and massage the lower leg, from the toes to the knee.

* Nail Enhancements -; The most popular Nail Care Services include applying an overlay of acrylic, UV gel, or silk/fiberglass materials on top of the natural nail. Artificial nails are a good solution for those with brittle, weak, or splitting fingernails. As a finishing touch, the nails may be painted with a clear or colored polish or a decorative French manicure. Beyond painting, the technician may also apply decorative jewels, decals, or painted designs.

Due to the risk of harming the natural nail, manicures and pedicures are best left in the hands of trained technicians. A monthly treatment is very affordable and a day at the spa is a well-deserved respite from a hectic life. So what are you waiting for? Pull up a chair, soak your feet and hands, and enjoy.
