Over time, almost everyone will get at least one traffic citation in their driving years. Most commonly, it is viewed that the best thing to do is to simply pay the fine and move on. For someone who has only one citation every decade or so, that is quite possibly the case. But, if you have more than one ticket of any sort with a few years or if your citation was not something you felt completely fair, it can be worth your time to talk to and work with a good traffic attorney Jefferson County, MO.

Missouri, like many other states, has a points system for traffic citations and licenses. Every citation received is one point. Drivers that receive four points within a 12 month period will be on watch from local authorities. Drivers that receive eight or more points in 18 months or less will have their driving privilege suspended. Upon first glance, the thought of receiving eight citations in a year and a half sounds pretty bad and one may assume the driver deserves to have his or her license suspended. In some cases, this is true yet it is not always the case. There are many gray areas in the world of traffic laws and is easier than one can think to obtain a point. For example, let’s say that you are entering the freeway via the on ramp and there is a large semi next to you. The only way to avoid getting pushed off the road is to speed up just enough to get in front of them (for the sake of roughly 150 yard) and then you can settle back to the speed limit. You make the choice to do this but, unfortunately, you are caught on police radar as exceeding the speed limit, even if only for a small distance and for a reason that had safety in mind. You could simply pay and be done or you could go to court and try to explain the circumstances on your own. Alternatively, you could consult with a traffic attorney to make sure that you know the best next step to make.
