Manufacturing of industrial coating supports many industries. The food service industry relies on non-stick coatings that stand up to high temperature, water, and solvents. Teflon® is the most common food grade coating and is an effective polymer compound that has been marketed to consumers since the mid-1950’s. Commercial food grade coatings are regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the non-stick benefits show up on cookware, food processing equipment, and molds.

Ceramic and Silicon Coatings
A mold needs to respond to temperature, finish and release requirements to make it a viable piece of food service equipment. But moving past the obvious benefits of Teflon® coating, manufacturers are applying other coatings to food service equipment, parts, bake ware, and molds.

 * EPS – is a thixotropic epoxy coating that thickens and is applied by brushing on a variety of surfaces. It cures at room temperature and delivers a resistant plastic with good compressive and flex strength. It also is not sensitive to moisture or humidity. It can be sanded and painted.

 * EPP – Expanded Polypropylene is a ceramic coating used in food equipment molds. Applying EPP to metal molds increases their heat and corrosive resistance. Finished molds will also not react with detergents, alkali or acid solvents. They are easy to clean.

Cheese Coatings

There are many obvious and not so obvious benefits to using Teflon®. Processing cheese machines use Teflon® parts to keep the cheese from caking and drying. A primary goal for any commercial manufacturer is to keep the equipment online and operational. industrial coating manufacturers offer a wide array of product options using anodized aluminum, ceramics, silicon, enamel cast iron and seasoned cast iron. Everyone benefits from improved equipment efficiency, environmental outcomes, and human safety.

Food Safety
The FDA is the single most important government agency and provides regulatory oversight of the commercial food industry. There are many FDA rules and regulations the industrial coating industry is required to follow in order to produce food components. An important outcome of coatings is that they are durable with a smooth finish that does not degrade over time. However, the degradation of Teflon® by using metal utensils can cause leaching of the chemical properties into the food supply. Manufacturers always recommend nonmetal utensils to avoid scratching the finished coated surface.

Quality Coatings, Inc. supplies a variety of food grade non-stick coatings that adhere to FDA standards. We produce coatings for cookware, food processing equipment, and molds without compromising quality.
