On a big construction project or a small job in the shop, having the right tools makes everything a lot easier. Unfortunately, something that is just difficult or annoying to work with the shop will be extremely challenging to have to use on a big project where you may be using the specific piece of equipment for hours or days at a time.

A good example of this is a welding stud gun. These handheld tools are used on bridges, large building construction, shipbuilding, metal fabrication and a host of other uses. The same factors will be important with both drawn arc and capacitor discharge (CD) types of stud welding tools.
Weight

The more you are using a welding stud gun, particularly for large projects and in less than ideal working situations, the more important a lightweight tool will be. It is important to balance durability and ruggedness with the lightweight feature as you want a tool that can stand up to the demands of the job but not have additional weight.

Size

It is possible for a welding stud gun design to be lightweight but still bulky in size. Look for compact and streamlined handheld weld tools that can be used on angles, corners and in areas where the bulky guns are not only impractical, but they make the job more difficult than necessary.

Cost

Although many people consider cost first, it makes sense to choose the handheld tools for stud welding based on the integrated technology and features, the weight and the size before limiting options based on cost.

The additional small cost of a quality stud welding tool, particularly if it is built to last and easy to use, will more than pay for itself in a very short period of time.
