Installing a washing machine may seem like a daunting task, but this is in fact far from the truth. If you’re looking to buy or have already purchased a washing machine in St. Albans and are looking for installation or even repairs, then look to a local supplier who offers a multitude of washing machines related services. If however you’re looking to install the machine yourself, this article will guide you through a quick step by step approach to installing it safely and properly. The entire process itself should take no longer than 30 minutes.

Turn off Water Supply

The first thing you should ensure is that the water supply is turned off and that the washing machine is placed on even ground. If your washing machine is located higher up in your building (such as on the second or third floor) then you should ensure there is sufficient water pressure.

Placement

If your washing machine does not require hot water, you should then analyse the minimum distance between the machine and the water tank itself. It is far easier to position the washing machine against an exterior wall – this way, the waste pipe does not need to be running alongside the inside wall.

The Pipes

After carefully positioning your machine close enough to the area where it will eventually be fitted you should remove all packaging from both inside and outside the machine. If there are two pipes on the rear then this means that there is a pipe intended for hot water – this will be the pipe with the red dot. Some newer washing machines however only require a cold water supply. Ensure the valve is switched off and then attach the hose by screwing it to your water valve.

Waste Pipe

You should then connect the outlet hose on the washing machine to a waste system that removes all the unclean water that results from washing your dirty clothes! Once you have connected the waste pipe to the u-bend pipe you are pretty much good to go.

Power Supply

Finally you should of course connect your washing machine to the power supply. This will need to be a 13 amp socket and it should have a light so that you know when it is turned on. If you are uncertain about connecting the electrical parts of the washing machine you should contact the company from which you purchased your machine from. Failing this, you can also contact an electrician. Click here to get more details.
