Many people think that if they have carpeting in their homes, there is no need for Area Rugs. In fact, these rugs can come in handy in a number of settings. By taking the time to look around the house, it will not be hard to see how the right rug will provide several benefits. Here are some tips on how to use the rugs to best effect in different parts of the house.

The Front Foyer

While it is true that the foyer is carpeted, think of how much foot traffic takes place every day. Over time, that can place a lot of wear and tear on the carpeting. In order to help reduce the wear, consider the idea of using a rug by the front door. Find a rug that picks up the colors used in the space so it will blend in nicely. When the rug begins to show signs of wear, it will be much easier to replace it than to have the wall-to-wall carpeting in the foyer replaced.

The Living Room

Area Rugs in living rooms can be used to define areas for specific uses. For example, it is possible to use the rug as the anchor for a conversation area. The right type of area rug is placed over the carpeting and then flanked with the sofa and a couple of comfortable chairs. Along with helping to give definition to the space, this approach also helps to add a little more color to the room.

The Bedroom

The feel of wall-to-wall carpeting in a bedroom is great, especially when getting out of bed in the morning. Add a little more softness by placing an area rug on each side of the bed. Doing so can help pull the colors used for the window treatments and the bedding all the way to the floor. Having the rug in place will also help keep the carpeting underneath from getting dirty as quickly.
