T channel transition strips are commonly used in order to join two flooring areas that are the same height. In addition, they make a slight amount of expansion possible. You can use these transition strips between two areas that feature ceramic tile, such as at an entryway or between two different rooms. This is especially beneficial if you are laying new tile in an area next to another area that was previously tiled.

The T-shaped transition strip will make it possible to cover the seam in between the two sections of flooring. In addition, it will eliminate any need to exactly match the colors of the tile floors.

Begin with a Clean Surface

You will want to start the installation process with a clean tile surface. Use a cleaner that is specially formatted for use on tile floors. Allow the surface to completely dry. You may also want to take the time to vacuum the area in between the two floors to get rid of any present dirt, debris or dust that may be there.

Measure and Cut

Next, you will need to measure the length of the gap between the floors. Use a hacksaw to cut a length of T channel that is equal to that measurement. You should use 220-grit sandpaper on the end of the channel in order to eliminate any rough edges.

Installing the Channel

You are now ready to install the transition channel. Use construction adhesive and apply a bead of about ¼ inch as close as possible to the seam of the original tile floor. Make sure that the adhesive you use is formulated to adhere to tile.

Insert the T channel between the two floors. Make certain that one lip of the channel covers the adhesive and the other covers at least ¼ inch of the new tile floor. Press the transition channel so that it adheres properly to the tile flooring. Then, wipe away any excess adhesive with a damp cloth. Allow time for the construction adhesive to dry according to the time suggested by the product’s manufacturer as listed on the label.

Once the adhesive has an adequate amount of time to dry completely, you are ready to enjoy your new flooring. The channel will provide you with a seamless and clean look that will bring both of the rooms together in the most aesthetically pleasing manner.
