The Total Solar Eclipse of 2024 will be here before you know it.
On April 8, 2024, a Total Solar Eclipse will be visible over most of North America. The eclipse will start in Mexico and then pass over through Waco, Texas to Little Rock, Arkansas to Indianapolis, Indiana then to Toledo (which will be in the center of the path of totality), then on to Toronto, Montreal (which will be in the center of the path of totality) and then Newfoundland and Labrador.
For Canada, the April 2024 Total Solar Eclipse will be the first visible total solar eclipse since 1979, and the first one in Mexico since 1991.
Parts of this eclipse will cross the path of the Great American Eclipse from 2017. In fact, the intersection of the two paths will be in southern Illinois near Carbondale.
Everyone in the continental 48 states which are outside the path of totality may be able to view a partial solar eclipse. Only the people inside the 123-mile wide path will be able to experience totality.
The maximum time for totality will be 4 minutes and 28 seconds which is considerably longer than totality during the Great American Eclipse of 2017.
The eclipse will begin at 15:42:07 UTC and will end at 20:52:14 UTC.
The weather for this eclipse should be cooler than the 2017 eclipse since it takes place in April. Most importantly, make sure you have adequate eye protection when viewing the eclipse. Looking directly at the sun can damage your eyes.
Eclipse watchers should start preparing now for the Total Solar Eclipse of 2024. Hotels, campgrounds, and eclipse glasses sold out very fast for the 2014 Great American Eclipse. Ensure that you order your eclipse glasses early to guarantee you have a set for viewing the celestial phenomenon.
