Your air conditioner is an essential part of your house depending on where you live. If you live in the southeastern United States, you know that temperatures can quickly rise to the triple digits. If you are in other parts of the country, the heat climbs there as well. Even as far north as Maine, summer temperatures often become unbearable. Because of that, you probably run your air conditioner during the summer in an attempt to keep your house more comfortable. If you have had an air conditioner for a while, you probably have had to call an AC service specialist. But, how do you know that that was even necessary? A faulty air conditioner can be a stressful and uncomfortable time, but calling a professional when you don’t need one can be needlessly expensive. There are some troubleshooting tips you should know before you call an AC service professional.

Air Conditioner Won’t Turn on

You might have experienced an air conditioner that won’t turn on. There are several reasons this could be happening. Some of these reasons are easy fixes whereas some could be very expensive. The first thing you should do is check the thermostat on your air conditioner. You should check to see if the thermostat is turned on if you have an electronic unit. If it is not turned on, then you should turn it on so the air conditioner will operate. If the thermostat does not turn on, you should check to see if the unit has fresh batteries. Replace the batteries if they are old. If it still does not turn on, you should consult the owner’s manual that came with the unit. If it still does not work, then you should call an AC service technician to look at the system.

Air Conditioner Is Blowing Warm Air

If the air conditioner is blowing air, but it is not cool air, you should first check the thermostat. Your thermostat likely has multiple settings: on, off, automatic, and fan. You should check to see if the thermostat is set to fan. If it is on “fan,” then your air conditioner will not be blowing cool air. Instead, it will just be blowing the outside air around the house. If it is hot enough that you are running your air conditioner, the outside air is probably very warm. So that could be the cause of your warm air.

If the air conditioner was blowing cool air before but has suddenly started blowing warm air, then you probably froze up the unit. This occurs when the air conditioning unit runs for too long and the unit freezes due to the refrigerant. You should shut the unit off and wait for it to thaw. If it happens often, you should call a specialist. Contact Eck Heating Cooling, Inc.for an emergency AC repair service. For more information, follow them on Twitter.
