Outdoor living expands your living space in a big way. Beyond plastic chairs and umbrellas to enjoy time in the sunshine lounging on, there are now more options for outdoor living furniture than ever. Large outdoor sofas, outdoor kitchens, screened in areas, decks with multiple tiers and large awnings to provide shelter, outdoor heating systems, solutions to keep the biting insects at bay, the list goes on. There’s a large and profitable industry related to helping people enjoy their outdoor living space. Here are a few areas you might want to think about if you’re doing some back yard “remodeling”:

Outdoor Kitchens

Beyond a bbq grill with a side burner, entire outdoor kitchens are now being built. They have sinks. They have refrigerators. There’s running water.  Some of them even have dishwashers.  Overkill? Maybe, maybe not. But it’s a trend that’s increasing in popularity. This works great at home and at the cottage. Gone fishing and had a great catch? Do all the cleaning and fileting outside and then cook it up all without any blood or guts in the kitchen.

Having a large outdoor party at your home? A fully functional outdoor kitchen can mean no more traipsing in and out of the house a dozen times in preparation of the food. Outdoor kitchens mean everyone is all together enjoying the sunshine even if the food is still being prepared.

Outdoor Fireplaces

Outdoor fire pits can be built with a few logs and a dug out area. But they are increasingly being built into your outdoor décor, which looks great and is enjoyable, not to mention it could arguably be much safer, too. Fire pits in the back yard can be civilized. And even if they’re civilized you’re still going to want to roast some marshmallows and hot dogs.

Outdoor Home Theatre

Movie nights outside could be a great way to keep the kids occupied after dark in the warm weather. Outdoor projection screens are increasingly popular. Add to that a screened in area to keep the bugs away and you might not ever want to go back inside.

If you want help redesigning your back yard so that it can be more of a leveraged outdoor living space there are companies with designers who can help you get your ideas on paper as well as do the work for you to make outdoor living more civilized than ever!
