If you possess an automobile or truck, you know that it is made of lots of complex machinery and various machine parts. In particular, when you review the dashboard of your vehicle, you notice that it is mostly gauges, dials and instrumentation. Like all machines and gauges, they will eventually need servicing and/or repair. If you live in New Mexico and need anything on your dashboard worked on, such as the Speedometer in New Mexico, check out the following information so that you will know how your speedometer and other gauges work.
Of all the various instruments on your dashboard panel, you look at the speedometer the most. You want to ensure that you are not speeding, or least not speeding too much. In fact, you rely heavily on this instrument to be working properly if you ever get pulled over and are ticketed for speeding. It is important that what you are reading on the panel is what is accurate. Of course, no machine can be 100% accurate, but you want to be as close to nearest tenth as possible.
There are two types of speedometer, the electronic speedometer and the mechanical speedometer, known as the eddy current speedometer. Your eddy current speedometer is calibrated using several factors: the drive cable gears’ ratio, the final driving ratio in the differential and the tire diameter (if you change the dimension in your tires from the factory installed tires, your speed ratio changes). When there is an issue with your speedometer, and the dimensions of the tires have not changed, you are having a problem with the speedometer’s drive cable which is attached to the transmission. You could also be having a problem with the permanent magnet which also helps in the creating of the eddy current which determines the reading of your speedometer.
Your speedometer will need to be re-calibrated. The way a speedometer is calibrated is by either adjusting the hairspring or the permanent magnet. Sometimes it becomes necessary to adjust both. If you need this done in New Mexico, Dick’s Speed-O-Tach will adjust your Speedometer in New Mexico and other instruments associated with your automobile.
